Languages

The Languages Domain at Cranbourne West Secondary College simultaneously focuses on learning another language as well as acknowledging the perspectives held by different cultures within our global community.

To prepare the students’ capabilities as global citizens, learning a language is crucial in building understanding of cultural diversity, and in turn, their own culture.

Throughout Year 7 and 8 Japanese studies, students are taught to describe, request, and express in Japanese. To explore the culture, students have the opportunity to make and taste Japanese food, experience Japanese pop culture – such as animation, as well as communicating through a Zoom call, or pen pal experience with Japanese middle school students. Japanese is strongly encouraged in senior years, as employers in all fields value those who can speak an additional language for their cognitive, interpersonal, and communication skills. As of 2024, there is a Japanese elective running for Year 9s.
