The LOTE (Language Other Than English) Domain at Cranbourne West Secondary College simultaneously focuses on learning another language as well as acknowledging the perspectives held by different cultures within our global community.
Students are taught how to read, write and speak in another language as well as non-verbal communication using physical gestures and facial expressions. Regular comparisons and contrasts are made in the LOTE classroom to broaden students’ knowledge and understanding of their own society and their acceptance of diversity in other cultures. A broad range of multimodal texts are utilized to build vocabulary skills as well as to apply the language students are learning in realistic scenarios. Our Year 7 students are currently studying Japanese language.
