Languages

The Languages Domain at Cranbourne West Secondary College simultaneously focuses on learning another language as well as acknowledging the perspectives held by different cultures within our global community.

To prepare the students’ capabilities as global citizens, learning a language is crucial in building understanding of cultural diversity, and in turn, their own culture.

Throughout Year 7 and 8 Japanese studies, students are taught to describe, request, and express in Japanese. To explore the culture, students have the opportunity to make and taste Japanese food, observe Japanese pop culture – such as animation. Students have opportunity to immerse themselves in authentic language use, like communicating through a Zoom call, and the pen pal experience with Japanese middle school students. Japanese electives offered for for Year 9s and 10s and is strongly encouraged in senior years, as employers in all fields value those who can speak an additional language for their cognitive, interpersonal, and communication skills.
