Teaching & Learning Vision

What do we stand for? How do we achieve our goals?

With students at the centre of everything we do, Cranbourne West Secondary College’s Teaching and Learning vision consists of our aspiration for all students to achieve and grow as learners, and to generate their own course for life-long learning. Students are empowered to take ownership of their learning, to make purposeful contributions to their learning environments, and to tackle issues arising in the world around them.

Our vision recognises the central role of teachers as they use expert knowledge, skills and dispositions as designers in the classroom. Staff develop engaging and challenging learning programs and create the optimal conditions for student learning, including supporting parents as first educators and partners in education. Teachers model lifelong learning as they build reflection and deep levels of thinking into their practice and challenge themselves and their students to co-construct and apply new knowledge.

Cranbourne West Secondary College aims for excellence in all aspects of Teaching and Learning. We support a wide range of opportunities for students to flourish as learners and individuals so they can achieve their desired pathways, including through applied learning. Literacy and Numeracy skills are embedded across all domains and curriculum maps and at all levels. Equally we know that education expands beyond the realms of academic achievement and we actively include social and emotional learning across all disciplines. The use of Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) is integrated across the curriculum and classrooms to support the improvement of teaching and learning outcomes.

“All students are empowered to learn and achieve, experiencing high quality teaching practice and the best conditions for learning which equip them with the knowledge, skills and dispositions for lifelong learning and shaping the world around them”.
